Prépositions et possession

To express belonging and possession, we use the prepositions:

•  À + proper noun (a person or place like Pierre or le Louvre) or à + stressed pronoun PRONOMS TONIQUES after a verb.
Le lit est à Victor. C’est à Victor. The bed belongs to Victor. It’s Victor’s.
C’est à vous ? Non, c’est à lui. Is this yours? No, it’s his.

•  De + noun directly after a noun.
Le lit de Victor. Victor’s bed.
Le chien des voisins. The neighbour’s dog.

Note: we say c’est à lui, but we can’t say c’est le lit à lui or c’est le lit de lui. Instead we say c’est son lit.
